CORROSION INHIBITORS ARE USED TO PROTECT METALS FROM CORROSION. A CORROSION INHIBITOR IS A CHEMICAL SUBSTANCE WHICH, WHEN ADDED IN SMALL CONCENTRATIONS TO AN ENVIRONMENT, MINIMIZES OR PREVENTS CORROSION. AN EFFICIENT INHIBITOR IS COMPATIBLE WITH THE ENVIRONMENT, IS ECONOMICAL FOR APPLICATION, AND PRODUCES THE DESIRED EFFECT WHEN PRESENT IN SMALL CONCENTRATIONS [1, 2]. IN THIS WORK PLANTAGO EXTRACT INHIBITION EFFECTS ON THE CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN HYDROCHLORIC ACID SOLUTION WERE INVESTIGATED USING POTENTIODYNAMIC POLARISATION, ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPEDANCE SPECTROSCOPY (EIS) AND WEIGHT LOSS METHODS. THE RESULTS REVEALED THAT PLANTAGO EXTRACT ACTS AS A GOOD CORROSION INHIBITOR IN THE 1M HCL SOLUTION. THE INHIBITION EFFICIENCY IS MORE THAN 88% THAT INCREASED WITH AN INCREASE IN INHIBITOR CONCENTRATION (FIG.1).THE POLARISATION CURVES INDICATE THAT THE INHIBITOR IS MIXED-TYPE. INHIBITION CHARACTERIZATION OF PLANTAGO EXTRACT AS ECO-FRIENDLY INHIBITOR CAN BE EXPLAINED BY ADSORPTION OFEXTRACT’S ORGANIC COMPOUNDS.

2,2'-((1Z,1'Z)-(((propane-1,3-diylbis(oxy))bis(2,1-phenylene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(azanyly lidene))diethanol (2-PPM) was synthesized. This compound evaluated as novel corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1N H2SO4 solution. Polarization study showed that the compound was mixed type inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance study showed that the presence of this compound decreases the double layer capacitance and increases the charge transfer resistance.Weight loss study showed that, the corrosion inhibition property of 2-PPM on the external area of mild steel samples in the solution is mainly depends on the inhibitor concentration and immersion period. Further, the maximum protection efficiency obtained by weight loss technique was 65 %. SEM and AFM results fully support the chemical and electrochemical results.

Given the urgent need for renewable, environmentally safe sources and the growing concern about the economic and environmental impacts of corrosion in light of continuous industrial progress, we aim in this research to study the effect of the extraction stage on Salicornia Extract (SE) performance as an economically and safely alternative source for inhibiting low-carbon steel corrosion in 3.5% NaCl under variant conditions. The effect of the sonication period on inhibition efficiency was investigated by preparing four extracts. The first, second, third, and fourth were prepared by exposing them to 20, 30, 40, and 50 minutes of ultrasonography, respectively. The study was carried out using weight loss, polarization, open circuit potential techniques for corrosion studies, and Fourier Transform InfraRed (FT-IR) spectroscopy to detect the functional groups in the obtained extracts. The results showed that there was a difference in the chemical composition of the four extracts and thus in their performance, as the inhibition efficiency increased with the sonication time up to 40 minutes, while it began to decrease after more exposure to the ultrasound. The results raised an important point, which is the possibility of using ultrasound as a new method to detect the active groups exactly responsible for the inhibition process in plant extracts. The third extract showed excellent ability for mild steel corrosion inhibition at different concentrations and temperatures. The inhibition efficiency increased with concentration and temperature and reached 90.11% at 7% v./v. and 328 K as a maximum value.

BY CONSIDERING THE PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS OF ACIDIC SOLUTIONS AT VARIOUS INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES SUCH AS ACID PICKLING OF STEELS, ACID CLEANING OF BOILERS AND OIL-WELL ACIDIZING, THE SPECIAL IMPORTANCE OF CORROSION INHIBITORS IS MORE PRONOUNCED [1, 2]. NEVERTHELESS, THE USE OF CHEMICAL INHIBITORS HAS BEEN LIMITED BECAUSE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL THREAT. IN THE 21ST CENTURY, THE RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ‘‘GREEN’’ OR ‘‘ECO-FRIENDLY’’ CORROSION INHIBITORS HAS BEEN ADDRESSED TOWARD THE GOAL OF USING CHEAP, EFFECTIVE COMPOUNDS AT LOW OR ‘‘ZERO’’ ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT [3]. PLANT EXTRACT IS LOW-COST AND ECO-FRIENDLY, AND CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH SIMPLE EXTRACTION PROCESS AS WELL AS BIODEGRADABLE [4-6]. THIS PAPER PRESENTS THE INHIBITORY PROPERTIES OF CYDONIAOBLONGA EXTRACTON THE CORROSION OF MILD STEEL IN HCL SOLUTION. THE INHIBITION PERFORMANCE IS EVALUATED BY OPEN-CIRCUIT POTENTIAL, WEIGHT LOSS, ELECTROCHEMICAL POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS AND ELECTROCHEMICAL IMPEDANCE SPECTROSCOPY COMPLEMENTED WITH SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY. EIS MEASUREMENTS SHOW AN INCREASE OF THE TRANSFER RESISTANCE WITH INCREASING INHIBITOR CONCENTRATION. POLARIZATION MEASUREMENTS INDICATE THAT ALL THE EXAMINED COMPOUNDS ACT AS A MIXED INHIBITOR AND INHIBITION EFFICIENCY INCREASES WITH INHIBITOR CONCENTRATION. THE ADSORPTION OF THIS PLANT EXTRACT ON THE CARBON STEEL SURFACE OBEYS THE LANGMUIR ADSORPTION ISOTHERM. TEMPERATURE STUDIES REVEALED AN INCREASE IN INHIBITION EFFICIENCY WITH RISE IN TEMPERATURE AND ACTIVATION ENERGIES DECREASED IN THE PRESENCE OF THE EXTRACT.

نقد بوم گرایانه رویکردی تازه در عرصه ی نقد ادبی و پاسخی به بحران های زیست محیطی ایجادشده در دهه های اخیر است. باور بر این است که اهمیّت انحصاری به انسان، به رابطه ی او با طبیعت آسیب رسانده و نباید انسان را در رأس هستی بدانیم؛ درواقع انسان بخشی از طبیعت است نه جدا و مسلّط بر آن. یکی از روش های اصلی نقد بوم گرا در رسیدن به این هدف، ترغیب بشر به بازگشت به دوران اسطوره هاست؛ دورانی که انسان با طبیعت دوست و هم زیست بوده است. تجلّی آن دوران را می توان در قصّه ها نیز-که میراث دار اساطیر هستند-مشاهده کرد. در این مقاله چهل قصّه ی عامیانه انتخاب شده و بر مبنای نقد بوم گرا، مورد بررسی قرار گرفته است. این پژوهش نظری و به روش کتابخانه ای انجام شده است. نقش طبیعت در بعضی از عناصر از جمله مکان، درون مایه و پیام، موضوع، بن مایه و به خصوص شخصیّت ها برجسته تر است. رابطه ی انسان و طبیعت در این قصّه ها بسیار نزدیک و دوستانه است. در قصّه ها انسان و طبیعت در کنار یکدیگر هستند.

Brick is the most widely used construction material. Demolition of buildings and production of construction waste, including clay brick, are dramatically increasing in an alarming rate. The production of traditional bricks such as clay bricks has hazardous impacts on the environment, such as pollution and extensive use of natural resources. This study addressed the application of the geo-polymerization process as an environmental and sustainable method to produce new bricks from clay brick waste and different types of fillers. Accordingly, the powder and grains of clay brick waste, dune sand, washed sand, industrial sodium hydroxide, and water glass were utilized to prepare cubic and brick-shaped geopolymer samples with different mix designs and then cured at 70 °C. The samples' compressive strength, water absorption and SEM analysis were examined. According to the results, the highest compressive strength for cubic mortar samples was obtained in the case without filler; for these samples, with mass ratios of water glass to sodium hydroxide solution equal to 1 and 2, compressive strength was 18.45 and 22.15 MPa, respectively. In the brick samples, the highest compressive strength was obtained in the 28-day and 8 M geopolymer samples, which was equal to 25.38 MPa. On the other hand, the geopolymer samples made by sand filler had higher compressive strength and lower water absorption in comparison to other samples. Therefore, sustainable production of geopolymer bricks from clay brick waste and inexpensive materials as the filler can be a step toward mitigating the environmental impact of construction and demolition waste.

The exploitation of naturally obtained resources like biopolymers, plant-based extracts, microorganisms etc., offers numerous advantages of environment-friendliness and biocompatibility for various medicinal and pharmaceutical applications, whereas hazardous chemicals are not utilized for production protocol. Plant extracts based synthetic procedures have drawn consideration over conventional methods like physical and chemical procedures to synthesize nanomaterials. Greener synthesis of nanomaterials has become an area of interest because of numerous advantages such as non-hazardous, economical, and feasible methods with variety of applications in biomedicine, nanotechnology and nano-optoelectronics, etc.

THE BIOSYNTHESIS OF NANOPARTICLES AS AN EMERGING HIGHLIGHT OF THE INTERSECTION OF NANOTECHNOLOGY AND BIOTECHNOLOGY HAS RECEIVED INCREASING ATTENTION DUE TO A GROWING NEED TO DEVELOP ENVIRONMENTALLY BENIGN TECHNOLOGIES IN MATERIAL SYNTHESIS. RECENTLY, THE USE OF FUNCTIONALLY INTACT CELLS (WHOLE PLANT CELLS), OBTAINED DIRECTLY FROM CUT PORTIONS OF PLANTS, HAS EMERGED. FOR THIS PURPOSE, THE PERSIAN OAK (QUERCUS BRANTII) ACORNS BARK EXTRACT (15% W/V) WAS USED AS A REDUCING AGENT FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES. FIGURE 1A SHOWS THE SEM IMAGE RECORDED FROM A SPUTTER-COATED GOLD FILM OF THE SILVER NANOPARTICLES SYNTHESIZED BY TREATING THE SILVER NITRATE SOLUTION (50MM) WITH THE ACORNS BARK EXTRACT. THEIR DIAMETER IS IN THE RANGE OF 60 TO 140 NM (VOLUME RATIO OF 3: 1). THEY ARE MAINLY SPHERICAL IN SHAPE SO THAT THE SIZE AND ABUNDANCE OF RESULTING NANOPARTICLES ARE OBSERVED AS FOLLOWS. FIGURE 1B SHOWS THE X-RAY DIFFRACTION PATTERN OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES OBTAINED AS ABOVE. THE DIFFERENT PEAKS ORIGINATE FROM THE (111), (200), (220), (311) AND (222) PLANES OF SILVER NANOPARTICLES WHICH PERFECTLY MATCHES WITH THE JCPDS CARD NUMBER 4-0783. ALL THE DIFFRACTION PEAKS CONFIRM THE PRESENCE OF FACE-CENTERED CUBIC (FCC) STRUCTURE OF CRYSTALLINE SILVER NANOPARTICLES.

The trend upwards using green, safe, and environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors has led to many studies being conducted on plant extracts and presenting them as an ideal alternative candidate. Here, Fig leaf extract (FLE) was prepared quickly at a low temperature (313K) to preserve the main chemical composition and distilled water as the solvent of extraction. This green inhibitor was employed to prevent steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid 1 M. The inhibitory efficacy, adsorption, and action mechanism of this prepared inhibitor were assessed using potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and gravimetric measurements. Thermodynamic analysis and adsorption isotherms have been, also, applied to elucidate the adsorption mechanism. The obtained results have shown that FLE is of a mixed type, follows the Langmuir isotherm and his inhibitory efficiency reached a maximum of 94%. The formation of an inhibitor film chemically adsorbed was confirmed by the analysis of corrosion process activation parameters, and also by a rise in inhibition efficiency as temperature was increased. These findings were validated by FTIR and FTIR second derivative spectra. Steel surface morphology was investigated using SEM techniques and XRD analysis. A satisfactory corrosion inhibitory effect on acid steel was brought by fig leaf extract, which is in line with the desire for the use of environmentally friendly, non-toxic products.

The essential oil from the aerial parts of Aaronsohnia pubescens subsp. pubescens plant (APS oil) was extracted by hydrodistillation, and then its composition was analyzed by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). We identified thirty-four constituents presenting 87% of the total amount, Which, Carvacrol (13. 9%), α-Pinene (10. 3 %), E-Anethole (10. 1%) and Ar-Turmerone (9. 3%) were identified as major constituents of APS oil. The corrosion inhibition and adsorption (CIA) performance of the APS oil on the corrosion mild steel (MS) in 1M hydrochloric acid was evaluated by the weight loss (WL) analysis and electrochemical assays. The weight loss outcomes indicate that APS oil shows a worthy inhibitory efficiency of 89. 88 % which reached at 3g. L-1 and 343 K. The charge transfer process mainly controls the results of EIS measurements, PDP measurements showed that the studied APS oil performs as a mixed-type inhibitor. Furthermore, the adsorption on the MS surface follows the Langmuir model.
